Jacinta had inverted nipples all her life and this condition had impacted on her confidence all her life, so she decided to find out if a procedure to correct this condition was possible.
Nipples that retract into the breast can occur in both men and women, and this is caused by tightened, contracted bands of connective tissue in the breast ducts. Some people are born with the condition while for others it can develop due to an underlying condition. While it is not dangerous, it can be a source of embarrassment for both sexes, and for women it can make it difficult to breastfeed.
“Having inverted nipples has been the most embarrassing thing,” Jacinta says. “I wouldn’t undress in communal showers or dressing rooms and getting fitted for a bra was mortifying, so I usually wore the wrong size. In relationships, I didn’t have any self confidence and later, I envied people who took having normal nipples for granted, as I also wasn’t able to breastfeed any of my children.”
Because of the lack of confidence this gave her, for most of her life, Jacinta wanted to get the condition corrected, but having children meant the plan was put on the back burner until her children had grown up.
When the time was right, she began researching clinics and surgeons. “Blackrock Clinic has a good reputation, and because of this I rang to inquire who did this procedure and went for a consultation with Mr Chan,” Jacinta explains.
As all good cosmetic surgeons should do, during the consultation, Mr Chan outlined exactly what the procedure would involve and the aftercare that was necessary. The results for Jacinta were very pleasing. Not only was she delighted with the correction of her nipple inversion, she was also very pleased with the level of care and the after-surgery treatment she received.
